As a business owner myself, I know how hard you have to work to make a company a success and build a reputation.
I started learning about e-commerce development not long before I graduated from University in 2012. I would build multiple test stores on Shopify in my free time and practice the code. I still love working on it as much now, as I did back then. I fell in love with e-commerce and knew it was something I wanted to pursue in the long-run!
Not long after graduating, I launched my first online store on Shopify called Roco & Miley, to sell fine art wedding stationery and prints. I was so excited to receive my first sale. Somebody out there, who I didn’t even know, wanted my designs for their wedding. To this day, I still get excited when I hear that ‘cha-ching’ sound on my phone. I'll quickly login to Shopify, excited to see what the customer has ordered.
I started Roco & Miley with zero clients and very little savings. I received no funding or mentorship and had no prior business experience. After two tough years, things finally started taking off, and I've now made close to a quarter of a million on sales. Considering this was my first online store, I'm pretty proud of that.
It’s so rewarding for me to help other business owners create their Shopify store and be part of an exciting journey. I share their excitement when they receive their first orders, because I know exactly what that feels like.
Having an online store means you are opening your doors to an International market and you will see how great it is once it gets going. Don't knock yourself if sales don't come through straight away, as it will take time. I highly suggest running some paid ads to draw traffic to your store. Paid ads have been a massive help to me over the years and I very often make a return on my investments.
You can also cancel your ads if the engagement is poor - it's often a case of trial and error. Some ads take off and others don't.
